International Biodiversity Day 2021

The International Biodiversity Day 2021 was observed by the State Climate Change Cell, Mizoram Science, Technology & Innovation Council (MISTIC) in association with Biodiversity & Nature Conservation Network (BIOCONE). The live webinar organized was attended by officials from various Government departments, faculty of academic institutions, members of Science NGOs in the State, students, etc. About BIOCONE: Biodiversity and Nature Conservation Network (BIOCONE) is a registered society in the field of nature conservation in Mizoram state of India. From a humble beginning in the year 2010, BIOCONE is an active NGO and steadily gained recognition and expertise in conservation of flora and fauna of Mizoram. Dedicated and committed members have been able to attract the state government attention in nature conservation aspects.

National Science Day 2021

National Science Day was observed in Mizoram on the 1st March 2021. Home Minister Pu Lalchamliana graced the occasion as chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, the minister highlighted the importance of scientific awareness and research in science and technology. He emphasized the need to concentrate on science laboratories especially in academic institutes. He congratulated all the winners of State Level Science Quiz Award, 2021 which was organized by Mizoram Science, Technology & Innovation Council (MISTIC). He appealed to all the students of Mizoram to strive hard in the area of science and technology and inculcate scientific temper amongst them. Er. H.Lalsawmliana, Chief Scientific Officer & Member Secretary, MISTIC chaired the occasion. Mr. Samuel Lalmalsawma, Senior Scientific Officer delivered a brief report on NSD and Mr. P.C. Lalngilneia presented paper based on this year�s National Science Day theme and CV Raman�s work. The theme of National Science Day for this year is �Future of Science and Technology and Innovation (STI): Impact on Education Skills and Work'. This year�s theme tries to enhance the appreciation of the impact of science and technology on education and skill. As a part of the observation of the National Science Day, an online webinar was also conducted in collaboration with 36 scientific institutions/departments in Mizoram.

Mizoram Science Congress 2020 (Online)

The third edition of Mizoram Science Congress was organised by Mizoram Science, Technology & Innovation Council (MISTIC) during 3-4 December 2020 in online mode. The Congress was inaugurated by Shri Zoramthanga, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Mizoram. The inaugural session was chaired by Dr. C. Vanlalramsanga, IES, Commissioner & Secretary, Planning (Science & Technology) Department. Address was given by Dr. R. K. Lallianthanga, Chief Scientific Officer & Member Secretary, MISTIC. Events of the Congress include Technical Session, Children Science Expo and Panel discussions. In the Technical Session, faculty and researchers of various institutions from within and outside the State of Mizoram presented their research works. Invited child scientists from different schools an districts exhibited their projects in the Children Science Expo and a series of panel discussion was organized focusing on specific themes such as Climate Change, Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Covid-19 pandemic. The Mizoram Science Congress is held biennially since 2016 with the prime objective to provide a common platform for the scientific communities - researchers, scholars, innovators and students in the state to showcase their research and activities. In doing so, it promotes and promulgates science and technology in the state by blending the knowledge and ideas emanating out of academics and innovative minds in a festive manner.

Meeting on sustainable utilization of bioresources

"An interactive meeting on Sustainable Utilisation of Bioresources for Socio-economic Development of Mizoram was held on 29th May 2020 at the Conference Room of Directorate of Science & Technology, Mizoram New Capital Complex, Khatla, Aizawl, Mizoram. The meeting was organised by Mizoram Science, Technology & Innovation Council (MISTIC) and Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) under the Chairmanship of Dr. C. Vanlalramsanga, Secretary, Planning & Programme Implementation (Science & Technology) Department, Government of Mizoram. epresentatives from various Government Departments, Academic Institutions and Entrepreneurs discussed the need for scientific interventions for value added development of bio-products. Main discussion points include formulation of food additives, food supplements, nutraceuticals from medicinal plants and use of food as medicines; nutrition profiling and labeling of traditional food and locally processed food items, production of bio-based fuel and fiber; and establishment of aromatic and medicinal plants community bioresource garden."

Seminar on Bamboo Composite materials for structural applications

Seminar on Bamboo Composite materials for structural applications was organized on 8th November, 2019 in collaboration with Council of Scientific and Industrial Research � Advanced Materials and Processes Research Institute (CSIR-AMPRI), Bhopal at Secretariat Conference Hall, MINECO, Aizawl. Dr. K. Pachhunga, Hon�ble MLA and Vice-Chairman of Mizoram Bamboo Development Board was the Chief Guest of the programme. The seminar was also attended by Prof. F. Lalnunmawia, Hon�ble MLA and Vice-Chairman of Horticulture Development Board, representatives of various line Departments and other stakeholders. Field visit with CSIR-AMPRI was also organized on 7th and 8th November, 2019. MISTIC and CSIR-AMPRI collaboratively submitted a DPR for setting up of Centre of Excellence in Bamboo Applications to Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.
