Wipro Earthian program came in to existence in 2011, with the belief that sustainability education needs to be a long term association with institutes and students across schools and colleges. Building awareness is the first step towards sustainability. The main aim of this program is to sensitize students, teachers and faculty to sustainability and to create a lasting behavioural change that is driven by learning and experiencing the details in this area. The Earthian program involves a series of knowledge building activities that connect the environment, students, teachers and subject matter experts. Students from classes 7 – 12 from any institution across India are eligible to participate in the Earthian program. The program focuses on the theme of Water, Biodiversity and Waste Management as life sustaining resource conservation activities. The participating schools have to form project teams of 2-5 students guided by a teacher to work on the thematic areas. The Team has to understand the themes and its different aspects of sustainablility in their area. The active involvement of students, teachers and institution is an impoertanat aspect of this engagement. Earthian activities comprise 2 parts. Part 1 is research oriented and part 2 includes submission of the research findings. The participants have to complete the activities and submit their projects to the Wipro team through C.P.R. Environmental Education Centre. The projects submitted by the participants are reviewed and evaluated by National Jury and the winning schools are felicitated for their contributions and efforts at the Regional and National level. A cash prize of Rs. 1.0 lakh is awarded to ten best projects at National Level. A jury comprising of Educators, NGO’s, subject experts & Wiproites select the most impactful contributions and felicitate the winning school and colleges at a Grand Awards event in Bengaluru. The cash awards, trophies & the opportunity to be part of the long term continuous engagement program are highlights of this programme. The Goa State Council for Science & Technology in association with C.P.R.E.E.C; Chennai has been working together in reaching the students and teachers of Goa since 2015.
